Michael Williams (B.A Honours, University of Warwick; fil.kand University of Stockholm) was a co-founder of the Swedish Network of Refugee Support Groups FARR in 1988 and served as Chairman from 1988 to 2008. He is currently the vice-chair of FARR. (www.farr.se) He is a recognised public legal counsel for asylum seekers. FARR is an umbrella organisation of volunteers in over 50 groups mainly working at local but also at national levels. FARR provides advice and support to asylum seekers in and out of the asylum procedure and to those assisting them. FARR also works with advocacy, training and influencing public opinion on matters relating to asylum seekers. In this work FARR cooperates with other NGOs at national and international level. Michael Williams was employed as a refugee counsellor in the Church of Sweden from 1993 to 2014. He is currently one of the Swedish experts producing the national report for the European Asylum information database (AIDA), a project run by ECRE (the European Council on Refugees and Exiles - www.ecre.org) Furthermore he is co-coordinator of the Swedish section of ELENA, the European legal network on asylum, which is also a sub-section of ECRE.
